Dentist Visits

We have had some not so fun times at the dentist lately. Tayson was born with connective tissue under his tongue that was really tight. When the doctor looked at it as a baby he told us it was border line needing to be clipped, but would probably be fine. We have always worried about it and finally took him to a dentist in Burley that has much experience in tongue clipping when Tayson was about a year. The dentist told us he would definitely recommend us getting it clipped, but to wait until he was older and could hold still. (Which knowing Tayson that might not happen until he's 80). We recently took Tayson to the dentist for a cavity which ended up being deep and so he needed to be partially sedated to have it fixed. We decided while he was under we would go ahead and clip his tongue at the same time.

It is a pediatric dentist so it is really fun for little kids. It has a train that runs around the wall, little couches, toys, and movies.

They even get a sucker when they are done. (Fitting for a dentist office huh?) They claim they are sugar free, but it still seems silly to me.

BEFORE

AFTER

The whole process was not so fun. Tayson could not have any food or drink for 8 hours prior and then to keep him safe they had to strap him down. They made us leave for the procedure which is probably good because I was a mess. It went really well and only took about 15 minutes. The dentist said Tayson put up a pretty good fight as I can only imagine. Because of the sedation they told us he would not be able to walk for a few hours and would sleep a lot. So Tayson had a 10 minute nap in the car and then ran in the store when we stopped to get a prescription. Crazy kid, he is one tough little cookie.

We are just happy it turned out well. (We had to wait for it to heal to take after shots.)His tongue can stick out much further and already his speech seems to be improving.
